Privacy Policy — ChatGPT Exporter

ChatGPT Exporter by GerTex does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. Everything happens locally inside your browser.

What the extension does

When you click the Export JSON button that the extension injects into the ChatGPT interface, it:

  1. Reads the current ChatGPT conversation ID from the page URL.
  2. Calls https://chatgpt.com/api/auth/session (ChatGPT's own endpoint) using your existing logged-in session to retrieve a short-lived access token. This is the same call the ChatGPT web app itself makes.
  3. Calls https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/conversation/<id> (again, ChatGPT's own endpoint) with that token to retrieve the full conversation tree.
  4. Saves the response as a .json file to your computer's Downloads folder via the browser's built-in download mechanism.

All network requests stay between your browser and ChatGPT's servers. No request is ever made to any GerTex-operated server, and no request is made to any third party.

Data we collect

None. The extension has no analytics, no telemetry, no error reporting, no usage tracking, and no remote configuration. GerTex, LLC does not receive, see, or process any data about you, your conversations, or your use of the extension.

Data we store

None on our side. The extension does not use chrome.storage, cookies, IndexedDB, or any other persistence mechanism. It ships no user-identifiable state between sessions.

The only data that leaves your computer is the JSON file you deliberately export — and that file is saved to your own Downloads folder, not uploaded anywhere.

Permissions and why we request them

The extension requests no other permissions. No tabs, storage, cookies, identity, clipboard, downloads, or background permissions are declared. The exported JSON file is saved to your Downloads folder via the browser's native blob-URL download mechanism, which does not require any special extension permission.

Third parties

The extension communicates only with ChatGPT's own domains (chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com) using your existing login session. Your use of ChatGPT itself is governed by OpenAI's privacy policy and terms of service, which are independent of this extension.

Children

The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from them (or from anyone else).

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published alongside any new release of the extension on the Chrome Web Store, and the "Effective date" above will be updated.
